Klay hopes to recreate iconic ocean dip in Los Angeles

Klay Thompson can't wait to return to Los Angeles for an opportunity to jump in the Pacific Ocean waters.

Speaking with reporters after the Warriors' 127-100 Game 2 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday at Chase Center, the 33-year-old explained that he will be looking forward to jumping into the ocean again, if he's able to.

"Well if the weather is better, it's not so June Gloomy, I'd love to go jump in," Thompson told reporters. "Hopefully go down to Manhattan Beach or something and jump in by the pier."

Thompson reiterated just what jumping in the waters means to him and what it does to his psyche.

"There's something just about getting in the Pacific Ocean and body surfing that just resets your whole mental and your spiritual being and I'm a true believer in the powers of the ocean and all her healing properties," Thompson concluded.

The ocean has always been a place for Thompson to rejuvenate and reset so that he is playing at his best.

During the Warriors' first-round NBA playoff series with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019, Thompson went to the beach with Jonas Jerebko and took a dip in the waters. What followed was a 32-point outburst from the Warriors' star in Game 4, helping Golden State amass a 3-1 lead.

After averaging 13.7 points on 44.4 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line in the first three games of that series, Thompson averaged 21.0 points on 48 percent shooting from the field and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc after his dip in the Pacific Ocean.

The Warriors ultimately won that series against the Clippers in six games.

Also, before Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, Thompson dove right into the waters after the Warriors arrived back in the Bay Area to get his mind right. He finished Game 5 with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and nailed five 3s.

It's clear that being in and around water helps Thompson get his mind right and arguably transcends his mental state to another place.

If recent history is to be believed, the Lakers might be in for another long night, especially after Thompson's 30-point outing in Game 2.
