Klay gifted new ball by Harlem Globetrotters after return

Back at Warriors Media Day in September, as he approached the end of his lengthy rehab, Klay Thompson told NBC Sports Bay Area's Kerith Burke that he had been using a red, white and blue basketball given to him by the Harlem Globetrotters for the entirety of his recovery.

Thompson said the backspin of the multi-colored ball revealed how good of a shooter truly was. He brought the ball to Media Day and took official portraits while clutching the ball.

Now, Thompson has a new sphere to commemorate the next phase of his career.

After missing 31 months, Thompson finally returned to the Warriors' lineup on Jan. 9 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and just a few days later, the Globetrotters visited Chase Center in San Francisco as part of their Spread Game Tour.

The Globetrotters left a brand new basketball for Thompson in his locker.

On the day Thompson returned after rehabbing a torn left ACL and a torn right Achilles, the Globetrotters had a message for the five-time NBA All-Star.

No word yet on if Thompson has swapped out the old ball for the new one.
