OAKLAND – Obliterating his single-season record of 286 set a year ago, Steph Curry last month became the first player to make 300 3-pointers in a season.
And now that Curry has 378 treys, another previously unfathomable number lies ahead: 400.
Though the Warriors star hasn’t necessarily made it a goal to get to 400, he embraces the possibility.

“I promise you if I get to 399 and I know it, I will chuck,” Curry said Monday. “For sure. But that’s the only thing I can guarantee.”
With five games remaining, 400 treys are achievable. Curry is averaging roughly five per game, and drained nine Sunday in a win over Portland.
In setting the record three years ago, when he made 272 3-pointers, Curry closed with a rush. He made 20 in his final three games (after making 16 over his previous five) to supplant Ray Allen.
Having already surpassed 272 treys last season, Curry closed with 14 over the final three games to finish at 286.

He zoomed past that mark five weeks ago, which is why 400 looms.
“It kind of just happens,” he said. “I’m not in the game, pressing to have a game like that. You want to shoot well, be aggressive, be ready for that night and hopefully good things happen.
“That’s kind of the only way I can approach that number. It doesn’t really mean anything in the grand scheme for me. I shoot the ball. That’s what I do every single night and if I have a couple more good games, maybe it happens. If it doesn’t, I’ll be still very satisfied with the way I shot the ball in the regular season.”
The hope for 400 is there, despite Warriors coach Steve Kerr strongly indicating a desire to rest Curry at least once before the season ends on April 13.
With the likelihood of playing only four more games, Curry had better keep chucking.
