Things have gone from bad to worse for the Minnesota Timberwolves over the past few days.
Last week the Timberwolves announced that former Warriors guard D'Angelo Russell would miss four to six weeks due to left knee surgery, and on Sunday, Minnesota fired head coach Ryan Saunders after an NBA-worst 7-24 start to the season.
The final straw for Saunders was Sunday's 103-99 loss to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Warriors are focused on themselves, but the front office has to be fixated on everything that happens in the Twin Cities because of the 2021 first-round draft pick that could be conveyed to Golden State if it lands outside the top thee in the draft lottery.
Minnesota said they will make an announcement on their next head coach Monday, but The Athletic's Shams Charania first reported Sunday night, citing sources, that the Timberwolves will hire current Toronto Raptors assistant coach Chris Finch.
For the sake of getting the 2021 pick in a top-heavy draft class, the Warriors have to be hoping that Finch can come in and help the Timberwolves win a few games.
The Warriors know having the worst record in the league doesn't guarantee getting the No. 1 overall pick in the draft -- see 2020 -- but they certainly wouldn't mind if the Timberwolves improved enough to finish the season with the third, fourth or fifth worst record in the NBA.

As NBC Sports Bay Area's Drew Shiller wrote, if the Timberwolves find a way to finish with the fourth-worst record in the NBA, the Warriors' odds of getting the top-3 protected pick would be 63.38 percent.
While Dub Nation roots for the Warriors to figure things out and find some consistency, they also should be rooting for Finch to turn things around -- just a little bit -- in Minnesota. He has a tall task without Russell, but sometimes, a new voice in the locker room can change the momentum of a team.
