How Steph's ‘Curry Flow 8' combined local artist, community

Steph Curry continues to stay connected to the Oakland community.

His own “Curry Brand” with Under Armour launched last week, and his latest project with the “Feel Good Flow” will be represented on the new Curry Flow 8, the first signature shoe debuting under the two-time NBA MVP’s namesake brand.

The shoe itself is unique and the first of its kind with UA’s new “UA Flow” cushioning platform. It has a strong grip that provides no skidding, no slipping and no squeaking on the hardwood.

Love that.

Curry is spreading the love with his Warriors teammates, as rookie Nico Mannion was spotted wearing the Curry Flow 8s during Warriors practice Thursday.

For this colorway, Curry teaming up with local artist Allison “Hueman” Torneros, who personally was selected by Curry because of her creativity and work around the community.

“This colorway has a cool connection of community and togetherness, and planting the seed of doing good in the world,” Curry said on the Under Armour site. “That’s what it’s all about.”

And they look amazing.

Some of the projects Curry wants to implement are directly impacting the Oakland community, beginning with the newly refurbished Manzanita court. This is to develop safe spaces for younger athletes to play basketball in these areas. The UA site says the brand’s larger mission is to create equal access across sports.

The Manzanita Recreation Center is just the beginning, but the main goal remains the same: To bring hope into the community.

“This is special to be here in Oakland and to have the first Curry Brand court here that will hopefully give kids a safe place to play and to dream big,” Curry wrote on the site. “We want to be their support every step of the way.”
