How Steph compares being in zone to watching Klay get hot

Steph Curry might be Klay Thompson’s biggest fan.

Steph is known for his unique ways of celebrating an incredible shot or impressive play, which usually includes a shimmy or a funny face.

But what brings even more joy to Steph is watching his teammates, like his fellow Splash Bro, go off during a game.

“When it’s happening to somebody else, like when Klay was going for 37, it’s the most fun I think I’ve had on a court,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area analyst Kelenna Azubuike. “You’re just living in the moment with him, and you’re so impressed and in awe of what’s happening and you’re enjoying it with the rest of your teammates while he’s in the zone. And I'm sure he’s not thinking about much other than ‘let me get the ball back.’”

Of course, Steph is talking about one of Klay’s many historic nights, when Klay broke the NBA record for most points in a quarter with an unbelievable 37 points in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 126-101 win over the Sacramento Kings on Jan. 23, 2015.

And who knows better than Steph himself what it feels like to get into a groove on a red-hot night.

“When I hit 60, it was the same exact thing. You don’t have an appreciation in the moment when it’s happening until you hit the last shot,” Curry explained to Azubuike. “Then I'm running down the court doing an I-don’t-even-know-what celebration. I can’t help it.”

With Klay back on the court now after a more than two-year absence, it’s safe to say pretty much the entire NBA world is rooting for him.

But there’s no hype man better than Steph.

“When it’s Klay, it’s a different vibe you’re just excited because you want it to keep going and going and going and see how far he can push it,” Curry said. “It’s just watching greatness.”
