Gameday: Klay will not play for Warriors against Celtics

UPDATE (3:20pm on Friday) -- Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson will not play tonight against the Celtics, Luke Walton told reporters a little over an hour before tipoff.

Ian Clark will start in Thompson's place.

The absence of Harrison Barnes hasn’t slowed down the Warriors, but things will be considerably more perilous if Klay Thompson joins his teammate on the sideline.

The Warriors say Thompson, who sprained his ankle Tuesday at Indiana, will be a game-time decision Friday night when they seek to extend their multiple win streaks against the Celtics at TD Garden in Boston.

Though it would be a surprise if Thompson is cleared, a final decision will be made after the Warriors arrive at TD Garden for the game.

“(Thompson) will get his treatment and then he’ll probably come here and get shots up and then when he comes back in from that he’ll let us know how he’s feeling,” Walton told reporters in Boston. “We’ll have backup plans for if he is playing or if he’s not playing, and we’ll take it from there."

MATCHUP TO WATCH

Stephen Curry vs. Avery Bradley and Isaiah Thomas -- Curry and Thomas are familiar with each other, dating back to Thomas’ days in Sacramento. Thomas always perceives Curry as something of a test of his own ability. The little guy is Boston’s spark plug and he does not back down. Curry tends to get the better of him, mostly because Thomas, like many others, struggles to defend the reigning MVP. That’s where Bradley comes in. It’s logical to think he’ll get plenty of Curry.
