Ex-Warriors guard Shaun Livingston honored with street name in hometown

Former Warriors guard Shaun Livingston was born in Peoria, Illinois.

He won two state titles at Peoria Central High School, was named Illinois Mr. Basketball, played in the McDonald's All-American Game and was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft.

The 34-year-old is a three-time NBA champion.

And over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Livingston had a street named after him in his hometown.

As Zach Hatcher of CentralIllinoisProud.com writes:

The newly dedicated sign is on a section of North Street near Livingston’s alma mater. The NBA star says he is humbled for the opportunity.

“I don’t take this opportunity for granted, I know any decisions that I could have made could have led me down the wrong path and hopefully I was a light every time I came back to Peoria was to try to inspire the youth and let them know that there is more out there,” said Livingston.

Nobody is more deserving of this honor than Livingston, whose career nearly came to an end following a devastating knee injury in February 2007.

Congratulations, Shaun. We all hope that retirement life is treating you very well.
