Ex-Warrior Mannion dealing with intestinal infection in Italy

Former Warriors guard Nico Mannion has not been able to take the floor with Italian club Virtus Bologna yet as he deals with an intestinal infection.

Mannion, who is listed at 190 pounds, has been weakened by the infection and appears to have lost a substantial amount of weight.

Here's how Mannion looked in an Aug. 21 picture tweeted by Virtus.

Mannion addressed his absence in an Instagram post on Aug. 27. When translated from Italian to English, the post read: "Tonight the team will be presented in Folgaria and as you know I will not be able to be there. I want to apologize to the fans who have been making me feel their warmth by any means since I landed in Bologna, you can't imagine how much I would like to be there with my teammates. But I'm getting better and I'll be with them soon. I take this opportunity to thank the Company, especially Massimo Zanetti, Luca Baraldi and Paolo Ronci, all the medical staff, Sergio Scariolo and Matteo Panichi for their closeness and everything they are doing for me. I can't wait to be able to repay their efforts and your wait in the field. Come on Virtus!"

After impressing in the Tokyo Olympics with the Italian National Team, Mannion signed with Virtus in early August. The Warriors still will retain his restricted free agent rights, and he could opt out of his contract in Italy after one season.

Mannion, now 20 years old, was selected by the Warriors in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft. He averaged 4.1 points and 2.3 assists per game as a rookie.
