Edwards has best odds of being Warriors' No. 2 draft pick

One of the most pressing questions around NBA circles as the 2020 draft nears is who will be selected at the top of the class, with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Warriors and Charlotte Hornets representing the first three picks, respectively.

In odds provided by our partner PointsBet, Georgia product Anthony Edwards is the most likely selection for the Warriors at No. 2 (+175). The young guard has been among the projected top picks for months, as the 19-year-old shows immense potential as a scorer and athlete at the NBA level.

Many experts point to Edwards as a very likely candidate to be selected No. 1 overall, and he had the best odds at being the top pick a week ago. One surprise among the players with the five best odds, as NBC Sports Bay Area's Grant Liffmann and Monte Poole discuss above, is LaMelo Ball being just behind Edwards.

"I just don't see the Warriors going in that direction at all," Poole said. "If LaMelo Ball is available at two, and they take him, I will be stunned, and so will many people in the Warriors' building."

Golden State has much more of a positional need in the frontcourt or on the wing, and big man James Wiseman comes in after Edwards and Ball with the third-best odds (+400).

Do Steph, Warriors need more shooting after postseason struggles?

"If I'm looking at that board and just saying, who can help them win right now," Liffmann added. "Not many rookies can ever help a team trying to win a championship, but a big man right now who can defend the rim, I'm thinking James."

Conventional wisdom continues to point toward Wiseman being the guy for the Warriors at No. 2, and despite a very limited sample size from his collegiate career at Memphis, reports indicate that Golden State has been impressed by seeing the 7-foot-1 big man workout in person.

So while Edwards and Ball might top the odds for the Warriors at No. 2, there wouldn't be many surprised by seeing Wiseman be the selection.
