The Warriors made it clear in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals that they wanted to hammer the Los Angeles Lakers with 3-point attempts, and it almost resulted in a Golden State win.
Of the Warriors' 106 field-goal attempts, 53 came from beyond the 3-point line in their 117-112 loss to the Lakers on Tuesday night at Chase Center.
And while the Warriors made 21 of their 53 3-point attempts, the Lakers went 6 of 25 from 3-point range. That type of disparity typically results in a win for the team that makes at least 15 more 3-pointers than their opponent, but not on this night.
Of the Warriors' 21 made 3-pointers, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole each made six, which again, should have been a good omen. It was not.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr was asked after the game about why his team took so many 3-pointers in Game 1.
"With [Anthony] Davis in the paint, you're not going to get anything easy at the rim," Kerr said. "So you still have to try to attack. You can't just play around the three-point line the whole game. But a big part of our offense is trying to get the ball into the paint, move it out, and our guys did a pretty good job of that.

"They were trying to take away our threes the whole game, the top blocking, and really putting pressure on our perimeter guys, and I thought our guys did a really good job of finding openings and getting each other some good shots."
The Warriors went on a late run and had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Poole missed a wide-open 3-pointer and the Lakers got the rebound, called a timeout and soon after iced the game at the free-throw line.

Golden State relies heavily on 3-pointers, as their lowest output of the season, including the playoffs, was 30 on Feb. 28 against the Portland Trail Blazers and their highest was 59 on Jan. 2 against the Atlanta Hawks. Tuesday's game was the 18th time this season they've attempted at least 50 3-point attempts and the fifth time they've attempted at least 53 from long distance.
The Warriors are going to keep shooting, but the dubious history they made Tuesday is something they hope to avoid duplicating going forward.
