Draymond pinpoints target date for getting to his peak self

Draymond Green did not have a monster game statistically in the Warriors' win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night.

The three-time NBA champion registered four points (2-for-5 from the field), five rebounds, six assists and one steal in just under 28 minutes.

But if you watched the game, you are well aware that he made a big impact.

How much longer until Draymond becomes the peak version of himself for this year's team?

"I think I'm like two to three weeks away," he told the media after Golden State's win. "Just continuing to get in better shape. My speed is kind of getting there. I dunked the ball today. That was big time. I was really excited about that.

"I think that was my first one-foot dunk of the year. It's starting to come back. I talked to [general manager] Bob [Myers] about that tonight. It's coming."

Draymond missed all of training camp as well as the Warriors' first four games this season, and the extended absence was a significant setback for someone who was highly motivated to return to All-Star form.

Although he isn't playing the best defense of his career, his presence on that end of the floor has changed everything for the Warriors.

Why Chiefs QB Mahomes reminds Kerr ‘so much' of Steph

"I think I've been pretty solid defensively, but I can always be better," he said.

As for his offense, of course it would help things if he improved his shooting percentages. The hope is that naturally will happen as he continues to improve his conditioning and rhythm.

But it's more important for him to set the tone by increasing the pace and attacking in the open floor.

"Got me a couple pushes in transition today. That's a good sign," Draymond said. "It's definitely coming. I'm excited about it. It's good to see the work starting to pay off. Starting to build up some continuity and some feel."

"My conditioning -- it's coming," Green said. I'm excited."

And that should be music to the ears of Warriors fans everywhere.
