The Warriors have been clear throughout the offseason and into training camp this week that they expect to compete for a championship this season after missing the playoffs in each of the past two years. Draymond Green believes those expectations are justified, as he always is confident in his team's potential when he is on the court.
“It’s always a realistic expectation in my mind, because it’s something I can control,” Green told reporters Thursday. “I can control what I do when I get out there on the court. I’m always of the belief that if I go out there and play great, I can give us a chance to be great.
“Is it a realistic expectation? I don’t know. But, is it my expectation? Absolutely.”

Green and the Warriors earned a spot in the first play-in tournament, but were eliminated after back-to-back losses.
Steph Curry showed his prime is far from over, as he won the NBA scoring title and finished third in MVP voting. With Klay Thompson expected to make a full return at some point during the season, the Warriors certainly have enough to compete for a playoff spot at least.
However, the Warriors also elected not to trade their two lottery draft picks for a proven commodity, and will have two teenage rookies on the roster for Opening Night that need time to develop. Green also acknowledged Thursday that teams hoping to accomplish both competing and emphasizing player development don't often find success.
"I mean I think that's the plan, so regardless of what I may think about it or what anyone may think about it, that's kind of the route we're taking and in the position I'm in, you just have to do all you can to make it a success.

"Historically we have not seen that work where you've kind of got a mix of old, I wouldn't say any of us are old, but older, Andre's old as s--t actually. But a mixture of experience and hardly any experience, historically I think in just being a fan of the NBA, I can't recall the last time you've seen someone have success with that, but in saying that that is our situation. So, you do what you got to do to make that situation work."

Andrew Wiggins' availability and how Thompson looks upon his return likely will be the determining factors for the Warriors' title aspirations, as we saw Curry and Green experience plenty of success together last season.
Green is the vocal leader of this team and always has had supreme confidence in himself and his abilities. It would add another layer to Draymond's decorated legacy if he and the Warriors can return to the mountaintop of NBA champions after two years away from the playoffs.
The quest for a fourth title for Green begins Oct. 19 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
