Draymond believes home, road close-out games ‘totally different'

Whether or not the Warriors are able to close out the Boston Celtics on the road in Game 6 on Thursday or at home for Game 7 on Sunday, both scenarios will feel incredible.

A win is a win and the location in which it happens isn't as important as you might think.

On the latest episode of "The Draymond Green Show" podcast, the Warriors forward discussed the 104-94 win over the Celtics in Game 5 of the NBA Finals and explained why close-out games on the road and at home are two "totally different feelings" with Golden State leading three games to two in the series with an opportunity to close out Boston on Thursday night.

"I've done both and the reality is they both give you two different feelings," Green said. "Going on the road and closing a team out and the silence that you hear from the opposing crowd, it's an insane feeling, because you feel like you just conquered them and so that's great. Having the opportunity to close a team out when you're at home and sharing that moment with your fanbase, it's glorious. You just feel it, it's absolutely incredible.

"To say one is better than the other one is like ... yeah, you can have your preference but they're both absolutely incredible but they give you different feelings. Ultimately, yes, you won a championship, but the feeling that the two of them give you are two totally different feelings. And for different reasons."

Draymond and the Warriors have done both. In 2015, Golden State closed out the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 6 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. In 2017, they closed out the Cavs at home in five games and in 2018 they swept Cleveland after a close-out game on the road.

Of course, the Warriors want to close out the Celtics as soon as possible, so if you were to ask the team which close-out game they would prefer, the answer unanimously would be Game 6 on Thursday at TD Garden.

If Boston is able to force a Game 7 at Chase Center, potentially winning your fourth championship in eight seasons in front of the home crowd sure does sound pretty awesome.
