Curry set to check off next milestone towards return on Thursday

OAKLAND -- The progression of Stephen Curry’s return to the Warriors will take another giant step on Thursday, when he will rejoin his teammates for a full practice for the first time in nearly four weeks.

“He will definitely scrimmage tomorrow,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said prior to tipoff Wednesday against Utah. “It’s a question of whether we’ll have nine other people willing to participate. I’m sure we can find five. It may be 3-on-3. It could be the time-honored NBA tradition of six NBA players and four has-been coaches performing a 5-on-5.

“He will scrimmage tomorrow,” Kerr reiterated. “He’s doing really well. He’s frustrated, but he sees the light at the end of the tunnel. So he’s getting excited now. It won’t be long before he’s back.”

Curry has spent the past 10 days ramping up his rehab program, advancing from individual shooting drills at half speed to increasing the intensity to running at full gallop and also testing his defensive reactions. He participated in a “modified on-court scrimmage session” last week and experienced no setback.

He was reevaluated on Tuesday and, if all goes well, will receive at least more examination Friday in hopes of being able to return to the court this weekend.

The Warriors are hopeful Curry will play at least once prior to their Jan. 4 game against the Rockets in Houston.
