LOS ANGELES –- Stephen Curry gets, at long last, one of his fondest wishes fulfilled.
The Warriors star and reigning league MVP is, by the standards of NBA general managers, a bona fide point guard.
Not just a point guard, but the best of the bunch, as Curry on Tuesday was named the top point guard in the annual league-wide survey of GMs by NBA.com.

It took six seasons for Curry to erase the perception in the minds of many that he was a shooting guard miscast at the point.
Curry’s response to the survey results was equal parts surprise and satisfaction: “Really? Did I get some votes for shooting guard?"
Well, yes, he did. Though James Harden of the Rockets and Klay Thompson of the Warriors finished 1-2 in the shooting guard category, Curry was among two others – Chicago’s Jimmy Butler and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant – to receive votes at the position.

But Curry owned the point guard category, finishing with 55.2 percent of the votes. Clippers star Chris Paul finished second, with 24.1, while OKC’s Russell Westbrook (17.2) took third.
Curry in last season’s survey did not finish among the top three point guards but managed to tie Lakers star Kobe Bryant for third place in the shooting guard category. Those days are over, with Curry snapping Paul’s three-year grip on the point guard crown.
“Cool,” Curry said. “I’m making progress.”
