Coronavirus: Eric Paschall didn't like Ivy League canceling tournament

As the world continues to try and deal with the coronavirus outbreak, the sports world is having to deal with a new reality.

Italy has halted all sports due to the outbreak. In the United States, Santa Clara County has put a temporary ban on mass gatherings and the city of San Francisco followed suit Wednesday, meaning the Warriors will play the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday with no fans in attendance.

At the college level, the Ivy League elected to cancel its men's and women's basketball tournaments altogether, abruptly ending the athletic careers of a number of seniors. Warriors rookie Eric Paschall understands the severity of the situation, but he wasn't a fan of how the Ivy League handled things.

"At the end of the day, it just can't stop everything," Paschall said before the Warriors' loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday. "That's the thing about the Ivy League closing their tournament. That's not fair. Like it wasn't fair to all those seniors. There's a kid from Penn I know, Devin Goodman. He had 998 points going into the tournament. Like that's unfair. So I feel like this shouldn't stop everything. I know a lot of people are in fear of it obviously because we don't know, some people don't know that much but it is what it is."

At the time of this story, there have been over 1,000 cases of the coronavirus reported in the United States and over 100 in the state of California.

The Warriors have 17 games left in their season and it's unclear how many will be played in empty arenas. But the focus should be on stopping the spread of the virus. We can get back to sports after.
