Bazemore gives awesome answer about Warriors role this year

Kent Bazemore received free-agent interest from the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers, but he chose to sign with the Warriors on a veteran's minimum contract worth about $2.3 million.

It's possible that Klay Thompson's season-ending Achilles injury played a part in him electing to return to Golden State, as he has the opportunity to have a big impact this season.

So, what does he think his role will be for Steve Kerr?

"I'm gonna bring the energy. I'm gonna dive into the offensive playbook -- ball movement, cutting slashing," Bazemore told reporters Wednesday morning. "And then defensively is where I'm gonna hang my hat. Shut that water off as they say.

"If a guy gets it going, I'm your guy [to stop him]. I'm gonna do what I've been doing to stay around these nine years. Get some rebounds, get some steals, get some blocks, get a couple assists, get a couple corner 3s. And smile my way back into the playoffs."

Warriors must address kinks Steph warned of after Butler trade

ESPN host declares Steph Curry is Babe Ruth of basketball

That answer is so dang awesome, particularly the last part.

The Warriors, of course, missed the playoffs last season after reaching the NBA Finals five straight years from 2015 to 2019, and are looking to bounce back in a big way.

Bazemore last appeared in the postseason in 2017 as a member of the Atlanta Hawks. If he delivers on his remarks -- and his teammates stay healthy -- he will be taking the court with a smile on his face when the 2021 playoffs begin in mid-May.

The 31-year-old almost assuredly will come off the bench, but could close some games based on certain matchups.

We shall see what happens, but Bazemore at this point is in a fantastic place mentally.

"It's not about the money,'" he told the media. "You can't buy happiness. Being back here, I'm the happiest I've been in a very long time. You just can't beat that."
