SAN FRANCISCO -- In the middle of the road trip, Giants manager Bruce Bochy mentioned that if the Giants didn't have bad luck, they would have no luck at all. Yankees manager Aaron Boone might have some thoughts on that.
The Yankees are at Oracle Park for the first time in 12 years, but the roster they brought hardly resembles the powerhouse that entered the season as a real contender to win the World Series. The Yankees have 13 players on the injured list, including an entire starting outfield.
Giancarlo Stanton (biceps strain), Aaron Judge (oblique strain) and Aaron Hicks (lower back strain) will all miss the series, along with contributors like Dellin Betances (shoulder impingement), Didi Gregorius (elbow surgery), Luis Severino (shoulder inflammation), Miguel Andujar (shoulder strain), Troy Tulowitzki (calf strain) and Greg Bird (plantar fascia tear).

The list hit absurd levels earlier this week when Clint Frazier, a young outfielder with six homers as a fill-in, sprained his ankle.
The Giants, on the other hand, have been remarkably healthy early on. Their only player on the injured list is Johnny Cueto, who will be recovering from Tommy John surgery most of the season. There are concerns about Tyler Austin's elbow, but he remains active.

The injuries -- 15 in all this season -- haven't kept the Yankees from contending. They come to Oracle with a 14-11 record, good for second in the tough AL East.

Even with all the big bats missing time, the Yankees are sixth in the majors in runs and fourth in homers.
