A's No. 8 prospect Sheldon Neuse will be promoted to the big league club from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday to replace designated hitter Khris Davis, who is out on paternity leave.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser originally reported the call-up, which NBC Sports California's Ben Ross later confirmed.

Typically a third baseman, Neuse has hit well this season in Triple-A, slashing .317/..389/.550 with 27 home runs. This will be his first major-league call-up.

The 24-year-old was a second-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in 2016, then was traded to the A's as part of the Sean Doolittle-Blake Treinen deal in July 2017. That brought A's No. 1 prospect Jesus Luzardo to Oakland as well.
