The veteran Plouffe can play a multitude of positions. Last season, Plouffe saw time at third and first base. He played 63 games at third base and 13 at first base while joining the lineup as a DH in seven.
Currently, the A's are returning Yonder Alonso and Mark Canha as options at first base, and Ryon Healy at the hot corner. Healy also has experience at first base as he played the position in college at the University of Oregon.
Rookie first baseman Matt Olson and rookie third baseman Renato Nunez are also on the A's 40-man roster.
