Wood tosses glove into air in frustration after giving up hit

Manager Gabe Kapler has used the phrase "That can't happen" quite a bit regarding the Giants' play on the field this season. Another moment that shouldn't happen appeared to occur against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at Coors Field.

Giants starting pitcher Alex Wood tossed his glove into the air in a fit of frustration after giving up a single to Brian Serven in the second inning.

Serven's single to center was the fourth baserunner Wood had allowed in the inning. After a leadoff single by Randal Grichuk, Elehuris Montero crushed a two-run homer to center to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead. Connor Joe walked with one out, and then Serven got the hit up the middle, prompting Wood's glove toss.

The bouncing ball hadn't even reached the outfield grass when Wood flipped his glove above his head and caught it.

After winning a franchise-record 107 games last season, the Giants entered Friday's game with a 59-59 record. They are 22 1/2 games behind the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers and are 11-16 since the All-Star break.

Wood entered the game with a 4.18 ERA this season, which will likely rise after his start Friday night.
