The Giants have been coy about Donovan Solano's timetable for return. There was no ambiguity with Tommy La Stella, their other second baseman.
Manager Gabe Kapler said La Stella, who went on the IL on Tuesday morning, will likely miss four to six weeks with a left hamstring strain. La Stella was hurt while running home in Sunday's win over the Padres. He said he felt a little tightness on his RBI triple and then the hamstring really grabbed as he sprinted home on a grounder. An MRI confirmed a moderate strain.
"Obviously there's frustration but I know that injuries are part of the game," La Stella said. "Now I'm best served to put my attention on getting back as quick as possible and making sure this isn't an issue going forward."

To replace La Stella, the Giants called up infielder Jason Vosler, who had two hits in eight at-bats while up briefly in April. Vosler was at third base for the first game of a doubleheader with Wilmer Flores at second. Flores and Vosler figure to get nearly all of the time at second base as the Giants wait for La Stella and Solano to return.
"This team is incredibly deep and anybody who is going to be filling in, anybody who is on the field, is more than qualified," La Stella said. "I think that's one of the unique aspects of our team, our depth. Vosler will have an opportunity to get out there. He's a really talented player and he's got a very consistent approach at the plate so I'm looking forward to watching him."

The Giants have not given an expected date for Solano's return from a calf strain, although Kapler said he is doing better. Solano has started playing catch and hitting in the cage.
