SAN FRANCISCO -- On a night when the whole sport was focused on home run records, the Giants rode their own power display and some late luck to a fifth straight win.
The lineup hit three early homers and a ninth-inning error by the Arizona Diamondbacks led to a run. Camilo Doval closed it out and the Giants won 6-5 at Chase Field, improving to 5-0 on the road trip through Denver and Phoenix.聽

The game was tied heading into the ninth and the Diamondbacks seemed to be out of the inning when Evan Longoria hit a two-out grounder to third. Sergio Alcantara fielded it cleanly but then skipped his throw into right field, putting runners on the corners. J.D. Davis immediately made them pay, yanking a go-ahead double into the left field corner.聽
With the win, the Giants (74-77) are back to three games under .500. Here are three more things to know:聽
Dinger Derby
The first six runs of the night all came on homers. Brandon Crawford hit a solo shot and Austin Wynns added his own to put the Giants up 2-0, but rookie Stone Garrett crushed an elevated fastball from Carlos Rod贸n to tie it up in the third. In the top of the fourth, David Villar added his own two-run shot, putting the Giants on top 4-2.
The three-homer game was the Giants' first since they hit five on a very hot night at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 5. They have 18 games this season with at least three homers after doing it 30 times last season.聽
The two-run blast from Villar was a no-doubter and gave him seven on the season, including six this month. Villar continues to make a very strong case to be on the opening day roster in 2023. He entered the night with a .864 OPS in September.

Not What He Hoped For
Rod贸n was supposed to start Tuesday in Denver but the Giants pushed him back three days because of a blister and cracked nail that impacted him in his previous start. He at times was checking the finger in the dugout Friday, but on the mound, he looked like his usual self until a pitch count got in the way.
Two nights after Logan Webb was pulled at 66 pitches, Rod贸n got the hook after 93, with one out and two on in the fifth. Two months ago, Gabe Kapler likely would have let Rod贸n try and power his way out of the inning, but the staff planned to be careful with him down the stretch even before the finger issues popped up.
When the first batter to face Yunior Marte hit a double, Rod贸n had two runs added to his line. He was charged with four earned in 4 1/3 innings. With seven strikeouts, Rod贸n moved four ahead of Milwaukee's Corbin Burnes for the NL lead. Burnes faces the Reds on Saturday.聽
History All Over MLB!
When Shelby Miller took the mound in the sixth he became the 64th player to appear for the Giants this season, tying a franchise record set in 2019. Only the Reds (66) have used more this season, which is not exactly something the Giants expected. The front office loves the churn, but the plan was to have a more stable roster by now.

Miller was traded to the Diamondbacks after having an All-Star season in Atlanta in 2015, but he only made 28 starts over three seasons. His Giants debut couldn't have gone much better. Miller struck out seven in 2 2/3 scoreless innings, giving a huge boost to a bullpen that had to carry a heavy load earlier this week at Coors Field.
