When asked if he wanted to start for the Giants on Opening Day, Logan Webb couldn't say yes any quicker.
The 25-year-old will throw to rookie catcher Joey Bart, signaling the dawn of a new era led by two potential homegrown stars.
Webb sat down with NBC Sports Bay Area's Giants host Laura Britt at spring training, where he told the story of how he received the news that he would make his first career start on Opening Day.

"[Giants pitching coach Andrew Bailey] and [Gabe Kapler] brought me in, they just kind of asked, 'Hey, do you want to start Opening Day?' And I was like, 'Hell yeah, I'd love to,'" Webb said. "I'm super excited. I'm just super excited for our group this year. I keep saying, 'excited,' but it's going to be fun."
After a shaky start to his 2021 season, Webb caught fire in the second half, finishing the season as the Giants' ace.
His quick development is a testament to the veteran leadership around him, which included three-time World Series champion Buster Posey and Bart's current backup Curt Casali.
"Well, those guys helped me so much," Webb added. "Being able to have those guys all the time. It's not just on-the-field stuff, but off the field and being able to talk to them and see how professional baseball players are supposed to act at the field and doing their stuff. And having those guys was so huge for me. I can point almost all my credit to them and the coaching staff we have. I think if you have that support group and those guys kind of pushing you to be better, it kind of gives you all the confidence that you need. Then you just go out and play baseball and have fun and those guys made it fun."

Led by Webb, there are high expectations surrounding the Giants' rotation this season. After bringing back a couple familiar faces and adding two new arms, San Francisco could end up having one of the best rotations in the league.
"I'm super excited and I said it the other day, I truly think that we could have the best rotation in baseball," Webb said. "You bring a guy like Carlos [Rodon] in who was an All-Star and he's a stud. I'm excited to have him. You bring guys in, you bring back [Alex Wood] and [Anthony] DeSclafani and you add Alex Cobb who has done it. It's more about the guys you bring it and the group of guys supporting each other. That was huge for us last year. We watch each other's bullpens all the time, we're having fun, we have these little sayings that we have. I think it's the same thing this year."
