The Giants reportedly are adding a new member to their starting rotation.
MLB Insider Robert Murray reported Monday night, citing a source, that San Francisco is promoting exciting pitching prospect Sam Long. The young left-hander will make his first career major league start on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers.

The 25-year old lefty has dominated both the AA and AAA levels of the Giants' farm system. In five starts this season, Long has posted a 1.99 ERA across 22 innings pitched, with 37 strikeouts and only five walks.
Long adds another left-handed presence to a Giants rotation that features just one other southpaw in veteran Alex Wood.

Growing up in Fair Oaks, Calif. before going on to play for Sacramento State, Long is a California kid who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 18th round of the 2016 draft.
Signing with the Giants on a minor league contract this past fall, Long quickly became one of San Francisco's most intriguing pitching prospects.
He might not have a spot on the list of top Giants' prospects yet -- but make no mistake -- Sam Long will enter his Wednesday start with plenty of hype.
