Giants catcher Buster Posey surprised a big fan in need of an emotional boost late last week.
Reese Osterberg, 9, lost her baseball card collection in September after the Creek Fire burned down her family's Pine Ridge home. Osterberg wrote a letter to Posey letting him know she lost his card -- her favorite -- in the fire, and Posey brought a big smile to her face when he joined her interview with KGO-TV's Larry Beil on Friday.

With Posey looking on, Osterberg opened a package the Giants sent that included a signed baseball from the 2012 NL MVP and a fresh pack of cards that included one of the veteran catcher.
"I think she's either gonna cry or she's gonna laugh. She's not sure," Reese's mother, Amy, said of her daughter in the interview.

Last week, Osterberg also received a generous donation from Kevin Ashford, a San Jose man who gave the young baseball diehard his 25,000-card collection.

"I would give anything to see the smile on her face when she receives them," Ashford told NBC Bay Area last week.
If her smile was half as big as when she met Posey, Ashford's in for a treat.
