Posey exits Giants game early with left thumb contusion

Brandon Crawford and Kevin Gausman joined Buster Posey on the NL All-Star team on Sunday, giving the Giants three All-Star this year.

Later that night, Posey exited early against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth inning after sustaining a left thumb contusion, the Giants announced.

Posey was hit on the hand and thumb area of his left hand when pinch-hitter Daulton Varsho hit Posey with a foul tip. The veteran catcher was in clear pain. He briefly stayed in after looking uncomfortable on two warmup pitches. But on the final pitch of the at-bat, Posey had to take himself out of the game.

The Giants were leading 5-0 at the time of Posey's injury. He was 1-for-2 on the night with one RBI, a strikeout and a walk. Posey improved his batting average to .328 on the season with a .968 OPS.
