Luciano's humble response to pressure of top-prospect spotlight

At 21 years old, Marco Luciano has been in the top-prospect spotlight for quite some time now.

The Giants’ top-ranked prospect still has a ways to go before landing in the big leagues, but there’s no doubt that San Francisco fans can’t wait for his MLB debut in orange and black.

That could be a lot to soak in for any minor leaguer working their way through the farm system in hopes of someday playing at the highest level.

But for Luciano, he’s just happy to be here.

“I don’t see it as pressure,” Luciano told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Carlos Ramirez. “I’m just having fun because I love this game and I’m enjoying it, and the results are good when you do that.”

From San Francisco de Macorís in the Dominican Republic, the journey continues for Luciano more than 3,000 miles away from home.

Despite a small setback due to a lower back strain back in June, Luciano has been doing his thing with the High-A Eugene Emeralds.

But as far as when he expects to make it in the big leagues, Luciano said he doesn’t like to get too ahead of himself.

“I don’t want to think about things that I can’t control because I don’t want to lose focus if things don’t happen like I planned them,” Luciano said. “I’m only focused on getting better, playing hard and when I’m ready, I know the opportunity will be there for me.”

With tremendous raw strength and elite bat speed, Luciano has become a prolific power threat.

And although humble, Luciano hears all the outside chatter and is aware of what's expected from him -- especially from Giants fans desperately ready to look past this season and into the future.

"Oh yeah, of course. I know it’s a huge responsibility and I’m going to do everything I can to not disappoint them," Luciano said. "[I hope] that they continue to support me all the way and I hope to see them soon so we can win several rings together."

Even though Giants fans are ready to throw this season under the rug, Luciano is showing a lot of promise as one of the most exciting young up-and-comers.
