Justin Bour, who has crushed Giants, signs deal with SF

Justin Bour is now a member of the Giants according to, well him.

The slugging first baseman updated his profile on Instagram to say “San Francisco Giants," and his signing was confirmed on the transaction wire Friday.

A few hours later, the Giants announced the signing of Bour and said he will report to minor league camp on April 1.

This is good news for the Giants, who have often been on the other end of a vicious bat from Bour. Across 19 games and 71 plate appearances against the Giants, Bour is batting .328 with 20 hits.

Bour, who hasn’t played in the majors since 2019, joined Nippon Professional Baseball in December of 2019, signed with the Hanshin Tigers to a ¥270 million contract (roughly $2.5 million USD).

Bour, 32, hit .243/.422/.338 with 17 home runs and 45 RBI in 2020 for the Tigers.

Bour hit .172 with eight home runs and 26 RBI with the Los Angeles Angels in 2019.

For now, it looks like this addition to the Giants is an insurance move for a rehabbing Brandon Belt.

Belt still is a “possibility” and “not a certainty” to play by Opening Day, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said last month. Belt had a bone spur removed from his heel a few days after the 2020 season had ended.
