Giants villian Bauer had hilarious meeting with idol Lincecum

Many people have imagined meeting their professional idols, the person who was so inspiring at their craft that you wanted to follow in their footsteps.

For Trevor Bauer, that person was Giants legend Tim Lincecum.

The Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander has previously called himself the biggest Lincecum fan and tried to craft his delivery to mirror Lincecum's.

"I think mechanically I modeled myself off of him when I was changing my mechanics around," Bauer told MiLB.com in 2019. "I've studied the principles he uses and how he goes about certain things, and I applied the same principles to my delivery. Mechanically, I'd say we're similar, and our ideology is similar too."

So, naturally, Bauer was psyched when the time finally came to meet his idol. But, of course, the meeting didn't go as he thought it would because, well, Lincecum is Lincecum.

"The first time I met Tim Lincecum, he's laying on a training table. I've imagined this in my head, this meeting of Tim Lincecum, for years and years. It's like, you look up to the guy, right?" Bauer said on "GOATS: On The Bump" podcast h/t 95.7 The Game. "He's laying on a training table getting work done. I walk in and Sam, the guy working on him, goes, 'oh hey, Trevor, this is Tim. Tim, this is Trevor,' makes the introduction. And Tim, the first thing out of his mouth, he's like, 'hey, who's got the biggest piece in the big leagues?'

"And like, I did not in a million years think that this was gonna be the way my first interaction with Tim Lincecum went, but here we are."

Classic Lincecum.

Bauer, the 2020 NL Cy Young Award winner, has given the Giants-Dodgers rivalry the perfect villain. He's not afraid to embrace the hate and his antics undoubtedly have already gotten the attention of the Giants, who will file them away for the rivals' next meeting.

The right-hander gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings in the Dodgers' win over the Giants on Friday night, and even busted out his sword celebration at one point.

Lincecum was a focal point of the heated rivalry for nine years, compiling an 11-9 record with a 3.54 in 28 career starts against the Dodgers.

Given his success and antics in his first Giants-Dodgers game, there's little doubt Bauer will be a focal point of the rivalry, as Lincecum was. Just on the opposite side.
