The hardest-hit ball of the Giants season thus far came in the first inning Thursday night, when Darin Ruf smoked a double to left at 109.9 mph. That's not the high for any member of the organization this month, though.
Top prospect Marco Luciano hit two homers in a camp game against the A's on Friday, including one that left the bat at 112 mph. Both of his homers would have ranked in the Giants' top five this season had they come in a big league game. The high for a Giants homer this year is Mike Yastrzemski at 109.4 mph.

Luciano is just 19 years old and still is filling out, but his power is already off the charts. That's a big reason why he's a consensus top 20 prospect and the No. 1 Giants prospect on every list. Whenever he arrives in the big leagues, he's expected to do things the Giants just haven't seen a whole lot of in recent years. Over the last three seasons, the Giants have had just two homers -- one by Pablo Sandoval and one by Alex Dickerson -- leave the bat at 112 mph.
Luciano was in big league camp for the first time this spring and struggled against high-quality pitching, going 4-for-29 with 18 strikeouts in Cactus League action. It was a valuable experience, though, and should have him fully prepared for a huge minor league season. The Giants have said they'll be cautious with placements of prospects, including Luciano, who hasn't played above A-ball yet.
