Top prospect Heliot Ramos received a nice tip of the cap from the Giants organization on Sunday morning, as he was named the 2021 recipient of the Barney Nugent Award to recognize his outstanding first big league camp.
The award is voted on by the club’s coaches, players and training staff and is named after a Giants trainer who worked with the team from 1993 to 2003.

The 21-year-old outfield prospect has absolutely mashed the ball this spring. Ramos has batted .432 (16-for-37) with three doubles, three homers and six RBI in the Cactus League.

At this point it’s unclear whether Ramos will start the season with Double-A Richmond or Triple-A Sacramento to begin the year, but Giants manager Gabe Kapler said it’s a “realistic” goal to expect Ramos to make his MLB debut this season.
Spring training numbers are often deceiving, but the pure pop of Ramos’ bat should have the Giants and their fans excited for the future.
