Giants prospect Luciano homers twice in fall league game

Consider Marco Luciano's cold streak officially snapped in the desert.

The Giants' top prospect homered twice through the first three innings Tuesday in an Arizona Fall League game, giving the Scottsdale Scorpions an early lead over the Glendale Desert Dogs.

Luciano, batting fifth and playing shortstop, hit a towering three-run shot to left field in the first inning, putting the Scorpions up 4-0. In the top of the third inning, he followed his three-run homer with a solo shot to left.

The long balls were Luciano's first two home runs in the AFL. He came into Tuesday going just 2-for-13 through his first four games. Luciano also entered the day with five strikeouts but four walks for a .389 on-base percentage.

Luciano is coming off a season where he impressed in Low-A, hitting 18 home runs for the San Jose Giants, and was promoted to High-A for the Eugene Emeralds where he struggled at only 19 years old. And just like in High-A, Luciano, 20, is the youngest player in the fall league

He will be streaky and will rack up strikeouts at times, but Luciano's potential -- especially with that kind of power -- is eye-opening.
