On a Friday night in Los Angeles, it was the oldest player on the field who made the most noise, and that caught the attention of Giants players a few hundred miles away.
Albert Pujols, 42, made MLB history by hitting his 699th and 700th career homers in the St. Louis Cardinals' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pujols is the fourth player in MLB history to reach 700 homers, joining Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), and Babe Ruth (714).
With the Giants in action on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks while the Cardinals and Dodgers were playing at Chavez Ravine, the Chase Field scoreboard operator used the break provided by a San Francisco pitching change to show Pujols' 700th homer to the fans.
Giants infielders Brandon Crawford, Evan Longoria, Wilmer Flores, and J.D. Davis were fixated on the scoreboard, and Longoria even clapped for a few seconds.
Following the Giants' 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks, Davis was asked what the players were talking about while standing on the mound and looking at the scoreboard.
"We were just pumped for him," Davis said on "Giants Postgame Live" after the game. "As a 90's baby, I've seen that man destroy balls since I was a little kid, especially back in his St. Louis days. To see him accomplish that, it's great for him, great for baseball ... We were pretty pumped. We knew it was going to be eventually that he would get that 700 but I think it was pretty cool that he did it at Dodger Stadium, especially since he played there last year."

Pujols' milestone homer came off former Giants first-round draft pick Phil Bickford and gave the Cardinals a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Of his 700 homers, Pujols hit 20 off the Giants in 90 career games.

The future Hall of Famer needed 21 homers entering the 2022 MLB season and that seemed unlikely to happen. But as he approaches the final few games of his career, Pujols got there with room to spare.
