While the Giants' bats never seemed to wake up in Washington D.C., it was a much different story for their Low-A affiliate, the San Jose Giants, over the weekend.
The Baby Giants won five of six games against the Stockton Ports last week, with their own minor league version of the Home Run Derby. It also was a big breakout series for two important prospects. Both Alexander Canario and Casey Schmitt showed why the organization is so high on the two sluggers.
Oh yeah, and Joey Bart continued to stay hot in Sacramento.

After a weekend away for my bachelor party that gave me sunburns and a lost voice, here are three things to know in our latest Giants minor league review.
Canario Crushes The Ball
Canario doubled and tripled on Opening Day, giving the Giants plenty of reasons to smile after the outfield prospect underwent shoulder surgery for a torn labrum last November. He then went ice cold and was hitting just .178 entering last week. In the loudest way possible, Canario was back with a bang and became the worst nightmare to the Ports' pitching staff.
The 21-year-old hit .440 (11-for-25) over a six-game span with two homers, two doubles, four RBI and also stole two bases. His second home run went 455 feet and had a 107-mph exit velocity.

San Francisco's farm system is stacked with outfielders. Heliot Ramos, Hunter Bishop and Luis Matos get the most love, but Canario has to be included in that group. He has exceptional bat speed and a plus arm in the outfield.
Canario can get too aggressive at the plate at times. That can be improved on over time, though. A healthy Canario heating up is huge for San Jose, and San Francisco.
Schmitt Joins The Party
Speaking of coming out parties in San Jose, Schmitt certainly had one too.
After homering on June 6 against the Modesto Nuts, Schmitt caught fire against Stockton. Over five games, the Giants' second-round pick from last year's draft hit .450 (9-for-20) with four homers and 10 RBI. His slugging percentage for the series was a laughable 1.050.
Schmitt earned the honor of being named the Low-A West Player of the Week.
The powerful third baseman had an extremely slow start to his pro career in the minors and still is hitting just .208, but now has eight homers in 27 games. Slowly but surely he's showing what the Giants saw in him at San Diego State.
The Latest Bart Update
Giants catchers went 3-for-15 (.200) against the Nationals, with Buster Posey having all three of those hits.
Here's what Bart did last week: 9-for-23 (.391) with three home runs and eight RBI in five games.
Bart now is batting .333 with six homers and a .997 OPS in 21 games at Triple-A for the Sacramento River Cats. The Giants are very much focused on Bart's development and have to be happy with what they've seen from him.
