Brandon Belt was the Giants' lone Gold Glove finalist this year, but he came up empty Tuesday.
Belt, a 10-year veteran, missed out on his first career Gold Glove, losing to Chicago Cubs star Anthony Rizzo.

SIGN UP HERE Belt was attempting to be the first Giants first baseman to win the award since J.T. Snow won his sixth and final one in 2000. Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals was the third finalist.
That's tough competition for Belt as Goldschmidt and Rizzo have combined to win the award in six of the last seven seasons. But Belt had a strong case to win this year. He ranked third in the NL in Outs Above Average and was tied with Goldschmidt for second in Defensive Runs Saved (one apiece), trailing only Rizzo (three DRS). Belt only had two errors in over 351 innings at first base this year.

SABR Defensive Index decides the winner this year, and it has liked Belt in the past. He finished second among NL first baseman in the stat last year and first the two previous seasons. His inability to stay healthy in 2017 and 2018 likely hurt his case.

Belt had a career-year at the plate batting .309 with nine homers and a 1.015 OPS over 51 games, but his stellar defense wasn't quite good enough to bring home the hardware.
