Giants, A's complete rare trade with Bolt yo-yo across Bay

Skye Bolt is taking the road less traveled. Literally.

The 27-year-old outfielder was selected off waivers by the Giants from the A's on April 5. But with the Giants and A's alternate site teams playing against each other in Sacramento and Stockton, Bolt essentially just switched dugouts. On Wednesday, a new wrinkle was added to the Bolt streaking back and forth between the two Bay Area teams.

Bolt was traded by the Giants to the A's for cash considerations, completing the rare trade between the two rivals. And again, he essentially is just swapping seats between two dugouts.

The Las Vegas Aviators, the A's Triple-A affiliate, will host the Sacramento River Cats, the Giants' Triple-A affiliate, Thursday night on Opening Day. This is some serious Twilight Zone stuff.

In February 2020, the Giants sent right-handed pitcher Burch Smith to the A's for cash considerations, marking the first trade between the two teams since 2004, when pitcher Adam Pettyjohn was traded from the Giants to the A's for, you guessed it, cash considerations.

However, the two teams still haven't made a player-for-player traded since 1990 when Darren Lewis and Pedro Pena were traded from the A's to the Giants in exchange for Ernie Riles.

Bolt made his major league debut for the A's in 2019. He appeared in five games, going 1-for-10 with a double.

Both played two games for the Giants, but was 0-for-1 with a strikeout.
