The Giants needed a good outing from Kevin Gausman, and he delivered.
In his three previous starts since the All-Star break, the Giants ace had struggled mightily, failing to pitch five innings in each of them. With concerns growing larger, Gausman reversed course Wednesday night in a 7-1 win over the host Arizona Diamondbacks.
A quiet game offensively for both teams, the Giants were the team to strike first on a solo home run off the bat of Donovan Solano in the top of the fourth inning.

Fast forward two innings later, Solano came through again. With two outs, his base hit down the right field line scored two runs, extending the Giants' lead to 3-0.
Gausman ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth, surrendering three singles and allowing a run. His night would come to an end after six very strong innings.

With one out in the top of the seventh, LaMonte Wade Jr. reached on a dropped third strike, eventually coming around to score on an RBI double off the bat of Buster Posey. Alex Dickerson would follow with a booming three-run homer to right field, extending the Giants' lead to 7-1, which proved to be the final score.
Following Gausman's departure, the Giants bullpen continued to silence the D-backs' bats the rest of the way.
