SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Farhan Zaidi and Alex Anthopoulos worked together to help build the Los Angeles Dodgers, so it probably shouldn't come as any surprise that they have at times liked the same players in their new spots. This week, yet another former Giant became a member of the Atlanta Braves.
Atlanta announced a one-year, $1 million deal with outfielder Alex Dickerson, who was one of Zaidi's best success stories early on in San Francisco before struggling last year. Dickerson was designated for assignment in November when the Giants signed Anthony DeSclafani to a new three-year deal.

In Atlanta, Dickerson joins Will Smith, Jay Jackson and Chadwick Tromp on the roster. The Braves also have Adam Duvall, who played for the Giants in 2014. Last season's championship club included Pablo Sandoval, Drew Smyly, Stephen Vogt and Ehire Adrianza. The Giants brought a player the other way a few hours after the Dickerson deal, signing outfielder Joc Pederson, who spent the second half of last season in Atlanta.
Dickerson didn't have much time to find a new home before the lockout and there were some in the Giants building who heard earlier this week that he might end up taking a deal in Japan. Instead, he joins a contender that needs some outfield help. The Braves lost Pederson, Jorge Soler is a free agent and star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is not expected to play the field until May as he recovers from a torn ACL.

Dickerson started his career with the San Diego Padres before breaking through with the Giants in 2019. He briefly helped get the Giants back to the fringes of the playoff race that July. Ironically, Dickerson's hot streak kept Zaidi from trading Smith, who later signed with his hometown Braves as a free agent.
