Crawford excited for team fantasy league, taking Farhan's money

It's that time of the year, and the Giants once again are looking to compete this fall ... in fantasy football.

And maybe in the MLB playoffs, but the jury still is out on whether that will happen or not.

With fantasy football leagues starting up again ahead of the 2022 NFL regular season, some players and executives on the Giants are prepared to battle it out in the team's annual fantasy league.

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford joined KNBR 680's "Tolbert & Copes" on Wednesday, where he was asked about the team's league, one of which he still is the commissioner. Crawford and the team are looking forward to drafting in a couple of weeks ahead of Week 1 of the regular season.

Of course, fantasy football has been a reoccurring storyline for the Giants this season, specifically involving Joc Pederson and his on-field incident with Tommy Pham prior to a game against the Cincinnati Reds on May 27. The saga took on a life of its own and captivated the sports world.

Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout famously was the commissioner of the star-studded league and got wrapped up in the debacle after Pham called him out following the initial incident with Pederson. When asked by KNBR's Tom Tolbert if he is a better commissioner than Trout, Crawford wasn't interested in the comparison.

"I'm not going to get into that," Crawford said with a chuckle.

One member of the Giants' fantasy league is president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, who notoriously is quite the fantasy guru himself ... or so we thought.

"We want him in the league, I think he came in second-to-last or third-to-last last year, so we want his money," Crawford said of Zaidi.

As a Bay Area native, Crawford also is a big San Francisco 49ers fan and has high hopes for second-year quarterback Trey Lance and the team this season.

"He looked good in that preseason game, I like it," Crawford said. "I think with how athletic he is and he has a strong arm, I'm feeling good about the Niners this year."

Regardless of whether Crawford and the Giants are playing in the postseason or not, they'll certainly have some fun in the fall with another high-stakes battle in the team's fantasy league.
