Brandon Belt hit on thumb by pitch, leaves Giants-Rockies game

DENVER -- One of the best road trips of Brandon Belt’s career ended in pain.

The Giants first baseman was hit on the left hand by a 93 mph fastball in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field and came out in the bottom of the inning.

Belt squared to bunt but appeared to get drilled on the thumb. He was down on one knee for a couple of minutes but initially stayed in the game. During a pitching change, he went and got his hand wrapped by trainer Dave Groeschner and when the inning was over he was replaced by Wilmer Flores.

Belt has been the Giants’ best hitter in the second half and hit three homers in the first two games of this series. He has 29 on the season, including 18 in the second half, which tied his previous high for a full season.

He had already reached base three times and scores the go-ahead run when he came out of Sunday’s game.
