Brandon Belt entered Saturday's Bay Bridge Series game at the Coliseum with no lifetime success against Athletics lefty reliever Andrew Chafin.
None. Literally no success. The Giants first baseman was 0-for-16 heading into their matchup in the top of the seventh inning.
Belt now is 1-for-17 against Chafin thanks to one swing on a 1-2 slider from the southpaw.

SIGN UP HERE Belt crushed a solo homer, his 17th of the season, to cut the A's lead to 5-3. The Giants would go on to win 6-5 after LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a two-run pinch-hit homer in the top of the ninth inning.
Moments before Belt's homer, NBC Sports Bay Area broadcasters Duane Kuiper and Javier Lopez brought up his career numbers with Chafin, and had a good laugh about it.
Kuiper: "Belt against Chafin. Want to hear some ownage?"

Lopez: "I love that. What do we got?"
DK: "No, you're not going to love this. Ownage on the other side. 0-for-16."
JL: "I peaked at that. Hoping you were going to sell it some other way."
DK: "It says here '16 line drives.' "
JL: "There it is."
DK: "I knew it was there somewhere."
JL: "The expected batting average was supposed to be .800."

Even Giants manager Gabe Kapler noticed Belt's career numbers against Chafin prior to the at-bat.
"Well, I looked up at the scoreboard and saw Belt's history against Chafin, and I think he was 0-for-16 going into that plate appearance," Kapler said after the game. "And I actually leaned over and said something to [bench coach] Kai [Correa] about it. And then, sure enough, the next pitch he put in the seats. So, it's a difficult challenge, particularly for left-handed hitters."
Darin Ruf went back-to-back with Belt, but it was Belt's homer that was more noteworthy to Kapler.
"The Belt one was slightly more surprising, but we know Belt can hit lefties too and he's been getting the ball in the air pretty frequently against them," Kapler said.
Belt now is one homer away from tying his career-high of 18 in 2015 and 2017. And now he no longer has to hear about Chafin's ownage on him.
