
Despite speculation that the Giants might try to signMadison Bumgarner to a long-term deal this spring, the team has instead worked out aone-year contract for 2012 with unknown financial terms.Henry Schulman reports that the one-year deal is similar tothe one Buster Posey received last season. With similar service time at that point last yearPosey made 575,000.The Giants have until March 11 to determine the salaries for all of their other players not yet arbitrationeligible.
Last season, Bumgarner made 450,000 and went 13-13 with a3.21 ERA and 191 strikeouts in 204.2 innings.

So far this spring, the 22-year old lefty has looked sharp, allowing just onerun on three hits and a walk in 5.2 Cactus League innings. He has a league-leadingnine strikeouts in his two starts, including five Thursday against the Padres.
