Report: A's shopping 1B Allen

With Daric Barton, Chris Carter, Brandon Allen and Kila Ka'aihue set to compete for 40-man roster spots come Spring Training, Billy Beane needs to thin out his first base depth chart.

He'll do so by shopping Allen, according to a report from ESPN.

Allen was acquired last season in a trade that sent Brad Ziegler to Arizona.

Allen, 25, has worn out his welcome in the minors, but he is yet to find solid footing in the bigs. In 93 Triple-A games last season, Allen batted .299 with 21 home runs and an OPS of .991. The same player, though, is the author of a .210 batting average in 376 MLB plate appearances.

Allen showed his power potential last Aug. 23 in New York, smashing two tape-measure blasts in a 6-5 win at the new Yankee Stadium.

The Rays, Pirates, Orioles, Brewers and Indians have all been linked to Allen.
