Report: A's Butler ‘injured in altercation' with Valencia

Prior to Saturday's game in Chicago, A's manager Bob Melvin told reporters that designated hitter Billy Butler wouldn't play due to a stomach illness.

But new details are emerging that paint a different picture.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Butler was "injured in an altercation" with teammate Danny Valencia.

CSN Bay Area contacted the A's for comment, but the team has not yet responded.

The incident occurred on Friday night, according to the report.

Valencia was approached on Sunday by The Chronicle and offered this response:

“No comment. What happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse,” Valencia said.

Unlike Butler who also sat out Sunday's game, Valencia played in Saturday's game. The corner infielder did not appear in Sunday's series finale with the White Sox.
