A's right-fielder Josh Reddick was named the American League's player of the Week on Tuesday, for the period ending September 2. It was the first time in his career that he has been given the award and the third time this season an Athletics player has received the honor.

Brandon Moss (week ending June 17th) and Yoenis Cespedes (week ending July 15th) also were also named winners this season. Reddick is in his first season with the A's after he and two minor leaguers were traded from Boston in the offseason for closer Andrew Bailey and outfielder Ryan Sweeney. For the season, the 25-year old Reddick is hitting .260 with 28 homers and 75 RBI. For the week ending September 2, Reddick batted .387 (12-for-31) with two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored in seven games to help theAthletics post a perfect 7-0 record during the week. Among league leaders, Reddick finished first in RBI, second in total bases (23), tied for second in homers and fifth in slugging percentage (.742).The Savannah, GA native hit his first career grand slam in the A's 20-2 rout of the Red Sox last Friday night in Oakland.
