Why Mariners' Winker loves playing at historic Coliseum

The Athletics are attempting to build a new ballpark and while most players aren't fond of the Oakland Coliseum, Seattle Mariners' Jesse Winker enjoys his time playing there due to the stadium's history.

Seattle is in Oakland for a three-game series this weekend, and while speaking with MLB.com's Sonja Chen on Saturday, Winker explained why the coliseum is one of his favorite ballparks to play.

"First off, the history here is amazing," Winker told Chen. "Reggie Jackson, Rickey Henderson are like two of my all-time favorite players. And when you look up, you see their jersey [numbers] and their names up on top of the bleachers there."

Winker isn't only a fan of the Coliseum; also saying that Oakland is one of his favorite cities to play in during the season.

"It's just a cool place to play," Winker added. "I'm a big fan of Oakland. I like playing baseball here, and I'm a big fan of the city. It's a baseball town. So it's just a fun spot to play, it really is."

The Coliseum does have a lot of history with some of the best players in baseball ever calling the stadium home during their tenure with the A's.

However, with various new ballparks surfacing such as Globe Life Field and Truist Park, it comes as no surprise that Oakland is pursuing a new stadium.

Perhaps if the A's do indeed land a new stadium they can take some of the qualities from the Coliseum and implement them into a stadium that also brings the modern touch.
