The Athletics lost one of their more important players on Saturday.

Utility man Josh Harrison signed a one-year contract with the Chicago White Sox, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday evening, citing a source.

The A's acquired Harrison from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline last July, along with veteran catcher Yan Gomes.

In 48 games with Oakland last season, Harrison hit .254/.296/.341 with two home runs and 22 RBI. More importantly, though, he continued to be one of the league's most versatile players on the field, playing four positions (2B, 3B, SS, LF) for the A's, which featured numerous defensive highlights.

Throughout his short stint with Oakland, Harrison took on a much-needed leadership role on and off the field. The outspoken veteran had an infectious personality and quickly became a fan favorite.
