Mitch Moreland’s regular season could be in jeopardy.
After landing on the Athletics’ 10-day Injured List with left wrist tendinitis Tuesday, manager Bob Melvin says the designated hitter will be out longer than that.
“He’s in a splint right now, for at least a few weeks,” Melvin said on Friday. “We’ll see where that takes us. Certainly, the regular season is in jeopardy at this point.”

Melvin said there was “sublux going on” in the area of his wrist, but Moreland is planning on getting a third opinion. So he and the team still are gathering more information.
“We’re not sure what may transpire,” Melvin said.
That’s bad news for Moreland, of course, who was doing a decent job filling it at the designated hitter position when Jed Lowrie needed a day off. For now, Lowrie will be the primary guy who will face right-handers, but he’s dealing with his own issues as well.
“Jed’s a little banged up right now as is,” Melvin said. “He’s got a little hand thing going on, his calf’s still a little bit sore, so he will be the primary DH against right-handers at this point.”

The team also selected DH Khris Davis from Triple-A Las Vegas who made his return with the A’s on Thursday in style. He went 2-for-3 in the 8-6 win over the Detroit Tigers with an RBI double in the fourth inning after pinch-hitting for Lowrie.
Melvin would have liked to ease Davis back into a more everyday role.

The A’s do have options, but it’s a tough blow for Moreland.
This season, the 35-year-old is batting .277/.286/.415 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI.
